Grafton Oberon electric 5-string - £275.00

Grafton Oberon electric 5-string

This product has a conventional 26" scale 5-string banjo neck with double action truss rod, nice quality vintages-tyle planetary banjo tuners, a hand-dressed fingerboard & fretting and smooth edge bindings. A real pleasure to play !

Th action is set so that both picking and frailing are comfortable but as the product uses a conventional banjo bridge & tailpiece, the stringing and action can be very easily adjusted to suit the individual player's needs.

The rim is a standard thick laminated banjo rim (to which the neck is securely attached with a 2-point fixing as usual) but it's fitted with a wooden top and back, effectively creating a "semi-acoustic" instrument. This generates more than enough volume for practising or even reasonably quiet singing etc. The clever bit is the dedicated banjo pick-up (very similar to a type that has been in use for some years in acoustic banjos) which is mounted in the top. If the design calls to mind the Gibson electric banjos of the 1930's, that isn't entirely accidental !

It produces a good clean "banjo" sound - admittedly not exactly like a top-grade acoustic banjo used with a precision instrument mike but surprisingly close - without the need for the sound engineer to spend all night tweaking the controls to stop it feeding back (how many of us have been faded out of the mix when the engineer got bored with trying to keep us loud enough ?)

This instrument is fitted with strap buttons and comes complete with a de-luxe strap, 2 sets of spare strings, capo spikes & a capo.

This instrument weighs only 5lb and will fit happily in open-back 5-string gig bags & cases (available at modest extra cost if required)
